FOP Newsletter
We say goodbye to our FOP brother Bill Grimsley. As all of you know Bill passed away Friday April 24th. He will be missed by all. Please remember him and his family in your prayers.
We would also ask you to remember, Associate member Carolyn Russell and her family in your prayers. Carolyn's husband recently passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Summer is almost here and our Lodge 155 is gearing up for a lot of activity.
As you all no Malorie Abernathy the three year old daughter of Deputies Melissa and Jim Abernathy has had a tumor recently removed from her brain. She also has two others attached to her spine that will be treated with chemo and radiation. Our FOP is sponsoring a golf tournament on June 8th at Silverhorn Golf Club. Go to our website www.ocsofop155.org to get a copy of the flyer and entry form. We invite everyone to play; if you don't play golf donations will be accepted. Jason Ledford is the contact person for this event.
Our FOP PAC FUND golf tournament is also at Silverhorn on May 18th. This event raises money for our Political Action Committee. This helped us get Just Cause passed and make political friends at the State Capital.
Another fundraiser that is now being planned for Malorie Abernathy is a Poker Run. This event is now being put together by FOP members Gary Greenslade and Mike Cunningham. You will see flyers going up soon as this event will be coming up in July. Again the FOP will be one of the sponsors and we are asking for not only all our members to be involved but for all at the Sheriff's office as well. This will be a fun event to attend!!!!!
Our Twenty Year retirement bill is still going through its paces on Capital Hill. There is a study being done at this time as to the impact it will have on the Fund. If all goes well the real vote won't take place until next years legislative session. We will keep you posted.
Brother Jason Bass has really done a great job on our Website. I encourage all of our members to sign up on our Website and see what's going on the local front as well as the National front. Do you have something interesting for sale? Let us know and let's get it posted on the Website for sale.
As you all are aware of two of the Sheriff's Office employees were recently charged in Federal Court and are awaiting a very costly trial. Did you know that if they had signed up for FOP Legal Fund all of their legal fees and any fines and other costs would have been covered by the fund? Think about it! I doubt that they thought this would ever be happening to them. You have to be an FOP member to take out the Legal Fund, all it costs is an extra $16.41 a month. For that price why wouldn't you all want it? Contact Larry Grant, Mike Durbin, Clyde Carter, Jason Ledford, Toby Uhrhan, Peggy Grant, Scott Dixon, Lora Sanchez or Henderson Ray to become a member.
Any employee of the Sheriff's Office can be a member of FOP 155. Dues are $20 for Deputies, $15 for Detention Officers, Clerical's and Reserve Deputies. Fulltime county employees can have dues taken out of their paycheck and Reserve deputies can have it taken out of their checking account monthly. IF YOU WANT THE LEGAL PROTECTION OF THE FOP IT WILL COST $16.41 A MONTH MORE. I can tell you this extra legal protection is well worth it. No one will be coming after everything you own because of some trumped up charge or frivolous law suit. The FOP legal takes care of everything including, Criminal, Civil and Administrative problems dealing with our work at the Sheriff's Office. Stop putting off this valuable protection!!
Photo Contest: Starts now, ends at our November meeting. First Place $100, Second place $50 and third place $25 .You must be an FOP 155 member to participate. Photo subjects must be in good taste and be submitted to our webpage no later than November 16 Th, 2009. Any subject can be entered. Board of Directors will vote on the Photos and the winners will be posted on our website. In case of a tie vote each will receive the amount of that place.
Have a great and safe summer. Come to a MEETING!!
